Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards: Johnnie Walker Blonde Backs Young Filmmakers and Digital Creators Ahead of AMVCA

As anticipation builds for the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards scheduled for Saturday, May 9, 2026, Johnnie Walker Blonde has reaffirmed its support for emerging talents in Africa’s entertainment industry by sponsoring the Best Digital Content Creator category and participating in the Young Filmmakers Day initiative.

The event, held at the Multichoice Studio, brought together aspiring filmmakers, digital creators and key industry players for conversations centred on the future of African storytelling, innovation and the evolving entertainment landscape.

One of the highlights of the gathering was a panel session hosted by Johnnie Walker, featuring Stan Nze, Amarachukwu Onoh and Abiodun Odu, with moderation by James Bentong Mbu. The discussion focused on how filmmakers and digital creators are adapting to changing audience preferences, digital platforms and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence.

Beyond discussions on online visibility and viral trends, panelists examined the realities of sustaining long-term careers in entertainment. Conversations explored the need for creative adaptability, evolving audience behaviour and the growing opportunities technology offers to a new generation of storytellers.

The programme, facilitated by Uche Jombo, also provided an avenue for young creatives to interact directly with established figures in film and digital media.

Speaking during the event, Oyetola Akeredolu, Brand Manager for Johnnie Walker, said the brand’s support for young creatives aligns with its belief in innovation and bold storytelling.

“Our philosophy is built on the world of unexpected expressions,” Akeredolu said. “What we see with young filmmakers today is a willingness to experiment, embrace new formats and tell stories in ways that feel authentic to them.

“That openness to change is important because the entertainment industry is evolving rapidly. Many creators are now building audiences across multiple platforms simultaneously, and that is transforming how stories are shared and consumed.”
