Adeboye Defends Oluremi Tinubu’s Pastoral Role, Says RCCG Won’t Bow to Pressure

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has firmly stated that Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, will retain her position as an ordained pastor in the church despite public criticism.

Speaking during the church’s monthly Holy Ghost Service, Adeboye clarified that Oluremi Tinubu was ordained as an Assistant Pastor over a decade ago, long before her husband, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, considered running for office. According to him, her ordination followed due process and remains valid.

He stressed that the church would not yield to external pressure demanding her removal, noting that she has not breached any of RCCG’s doctrines or ethical standards.

Addressing concerns about political affiliations, Adeboye reiterated that the RCCG is not aligned with any political party. He explained that its congregation includes members from across Nigeria’s political spectrum, including the APC, PDP, ADC, APGA, and Labour Party.

While emphasising inclusivity, he made it clear that the church does not permit political campaigning on its altar, maintaining a strict boundary between worship and partisan activities.

On Nigeria’s political future, Adeboye remarked that the individual who will emerge as president in the 2027 elections has already been chosen by God, reinforcing his belief in divine sovereignty over national leadership.

He also responded to criticisms regarding insecurity in northern Nigeria, particularly affecting Christian communities. Adeboye stated that the RCCG has been actively supporting victims through internally displaced persons (IDP) camps and various welfare programmes, dismissing claims that the church has remained silent on the crisis.
