How Femi Adebayo Beat Piracy With Community Screenings as Ageshinkole 2 Crosses ₦400m

Nigerian actor and filmmaker Femi Adebayo has shed light on how strategic collaboration and innovation helped curb piracy during the release of his latest film, Ageshinkole 2: King of Thieves 2.
Speaking in a candid interview, Adebayo revealed that anti-piracy efforts were effectively handled by Circuit TV, one of the film’s key collaborators. According to him, the platform deployed a robust content-protection framework that ensured the movie remained secure throughout its unconventional distribution run.
“Piracy was fully handled by Circuit TV. They have an extremely wonderful structure that makes it difficult for their content to be pirated,” Adebayo said. “With Blue Pictures, my distributor, we combined our experience, logistics and framework, and we were confident we would get it right.”
The strategy appears to have paid off. Ageshinkole 2 reportedly grossed over ₦400 million within its first 12 days, a significant achievement in Nigeria’s film industry, particularly for a release that departed from the traditional cinema model.
In December 2025, Adebayo announced a bold Community Cinema tour for the sequel, taking the film directly to local communities across Nigeria. He described the move as a way of giving back to fans while also rethinking film distribution by reaching audiences beyond conventional cinema halls.
The filmmaker noted that the sequel builds on the success of the original King of Thieves franchise, promising heightened drama, suspense and culturally rich storytelling. Screenings were held across various communities throughout December 2025 and extended into early January 2026.
With its strong box office performance and innovative release strategy, Ageshinkole 2 is being hailed as a case study in how Nollywood can combat piracy while expanding access and audience engagement.
