OGD APC crisis intensifies as APC Youths accuse Gov. Abiodun of plotting to remove Gbenga Daniel from the party over senatorial ambitions
The brewing OGD APC crisis in Ogun State has taken a fiery turn as the Progressives Youth Wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) openly condemned Governor Dapo Abiodun for allegedly orchestrating a campaign to force former Governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD) out of the party.

In a strongly worded statement released Sunday in Abeokuta, the Youth Wing accused Abiodun of a series of politically motivated moves targeting OGD — including threats to demolish his properties, a possible suspension from the party, and a disinformation campaign designed to discredit him before President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“The grand design is simple: to set President Tinubu against OGD by painting him as unreliable. But this false narrative will collapse under the weight of history,” the statement declared.
The group asserted that the motives are clear — to eliminate Daniel as a political obstacle so Governor Abiodun can run unopposed for the Ogun East senatorial seat in the next election cycle.

They contrasted OGD’s legacy with Abiodun’s political past, recalling Daniel’s role as a financier of the pro-democracy NADECO movement during Nigeria’s military era, while accusing Abiodun of aligning with anti-democratic elements at the time.
“As a true progressive with clear pedigree, OGD remains a solid pillar in the midst of genuine progressives,” the statement continued.
Adding to the tensions, the group claimed to have intelligence that Governor Abiodun is allegedly sponsoring planned protests and attacks on Daniel’s properties.
They warned that the state cannot afford political violence provoked by “one man’s desperation.”
The Youth Wing reaffirmed its loyalty to the APC and President Tinubu, vowing to resist all attempts to isolate or discredit OGD.
“OGD cannot and will not be driven out of APC. He is a founding pillar, a democrat, and a statesman. Any attempt to destroy him is an attempt to weaken the progressives’ family,” they stated.
