Deji Adeyanju on Peter Obi: Activist says even a shrine oath won’t sway northern voters. Claims only Goodluck Jonathan could beat Tinubu in 2027 election
Deji Adeyanju on Peter Obi sparked renewed political debate after the human rights lawyer declared that even if Peter Obi swore in a shrine to serve only one presidential term, northern voters would still not believe or support him.

Adeyanju made the remark during an interview on Arise Television, criticizing the former Labour Party presidential candidate’s recent statement where Obi expressed willingness to serve only one term and then hand over power to the North.
According to Adeyanju, the only southern politician with a real chance of unseating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next election is former President Goodluck Jonathan precisely because he is constitutionally limited to just one more term.
“Even if \[Peter Obi] swears in a shrine, they will not believe him and they will not vote for him,” Adeyanju stated bluntly, questioning the feasibility of any southern candidate defeating Tinubu in 2027.
He added that Atiku Abubakar, if he steps down, should support a younger Northerner rather than insisting on returning to the ballot.
