Oba Lawal marks five years as Oniru with cultural renaissance and strategic leadership that transformed Iruland through growth, unity and innovation
Iruland cultural renaissance leadership took centre stage as the Oniru of Iruland, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, celebrated his fifth coronation anniversary in a ceremony that blended tradition with a bold vision for the future.

The event brought together traditional rulers, public officials, cultural ambassadors and community leaders, all united in honour of a monarch who has made measurable impact.

Addressing the gathering, Oba Lawal described his reign as a journey of transformation defined by inclusive leadership, cultural preservation and progress.
recalled the significance of ascending the revered throne of his ancestors five years ago, calling it both a sacred duty and a lifelong commitment to his people.

“By the will of Olodumare and the enduring grace of our ancestors, I ascended the sacred throne of my forebears as the 15th Oniru of Iruland,” he said.
The monarch credited the unity and unwavering support of the Iru people as the foundation for his achievements, emphasising that Iruland is far more than its geography—it is the collective identity of its citizens.
“Iru is not just a place; it is a people,” he stated, highlighting the spirit of shared responsibility that has sustained the community’s growth.
At the heart of his developmental vision is the #LeGIT agenda, an acronym for “Let’s Grow Iru Land Together.”
The framework fuses Leadership, Growth, Innovation and Tradition into a holistic strategy that aims to elevate Iruland into a modern, inclusive and culturally anchored urban centre.
“What began as a bold vision has evolved into a living movement,” the monarch said, urging every stakeholder to be part of Iruland’s unfolding story.
The fifth anniversary was marked not only by festivities but also by reflection and recognition. Traditional dancers, royal processions and other cultural displays captivated the audience, while six distinguished individuals received chieftaincy titles in appreciation of their service to Iruland’s progress and unity.
Oba Lawal’s reign has become a reference point for how a modern monarchy can lead without abandoning its roots.
