The national executive committee of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) has adopted the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Peter Obi, as its candidate for February 16 election.

The party made this known in a communique it released on Thursday night, February 14, by its southwest zonal chairman, Otuba Tayo Onayemi, Nigerian Tribune reports.

We gathered that the party said its decision was based on Atiku’s numerous experiences in governance.

Atiku’s promise to restructure Nigeria if elected and many others were parts of the reasons behind his endorsement by the party.

The communique read: “While urging our numerous members and followers to still go ahead and vote for AD candidates for other elective offices like National Assembly, Governorship and State Houses of Assembly, the NEC, therefore, wishes to advise President Muhammadu Buhari, who had also tried his possible best to make Nigeria great, to take a well deserved rest and allow his younger and energetic brother, Atiku, to continue from where he would stop.”

Meanwhile, we previously reported that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, was tipped to win the presidential election on Saturday, February 16, by the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM), Chief Frank Igwebuike

Igwebuike made the assertion when he led some members of PDM’s National Working Committee to the Atiku Presidential Campaign Office in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

According to him, Atiku has the energy, courage and experience to move Nigeria forward.

He said: “We are here today, having resolved as a political party for the interest of Nigeria and Nigerians that we have looked at all the candidates vying for the election in 2019, and noticed that Atiku Abubakar is the best within the political space to occupy the position of president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“We have looked at his antecedents and we are very much convinced that he is the man of the moment. He is intelligent and a man who has courage to lead Nigeria. Private sector driven economy is what is needed in the 21st century.”
