Grammy-nominated Nigerian superstar Wizkid has etched his name into global music history, becoming the first African artist to surpass 10 billion streams on Spotify.
The milestone underscores Wizkid’s far-reaching influence and enduring popularity across continents. His global smash hit “One Dance” with Canadian rapper Drake remains a major contributor, amassing nearly 4 billion streams, while “Essence”, his groundbreaking collaboration with Tems, has crossed 334 million streams, cementing its status as a cultural anthem.

As of January 2026, Wizkid sits comfortably at the top of Spotify’s list of Africa’s most-streamed artists. He is closely followed by Burna Boy, who has recorded over 9.5 billion streams. Rema ranks third with 5.6 billion streams, while Tems has surpassed 4.4 billion. South African sensation Tyla boasts 3.7 billion streams, with Nigerian star Ayra Starr trailing closely on 3.3 billion.
Wizkid’s critically acclaimed third studio album, Made In Lagos (Deluxe), stands as his most-streamed project on the platform, having crossed the one billion streams mark—an achievement that further highlights the album’s global resonance.

Beyond streaming dominance, Wizkid’s career is decorated with prestigious accolades. He won a Grammy Award for his collaboration with Beyoncé on The Lion King: The Gift soundtrack and has also earned multiple BET, Soul Train, and Billboard Awards, solidifying his status as one of Africa’s most successful musical exports.
With this latest feat, Wizkid not only raises the bar for African artists but also reinforces Afrobeats’ growing dominance on the global music stage.
