Wike assures security for Africa military games 2024 in Abuja

Africa Military Games 2024 in Abuja

The Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, assured tight security for the Africa Military Games 2024, set for 18–30 November in Abuja. Over 3,000 participants are expected.

 

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured the Nigerian military of full support and enhanced security for the upcoming Africa Military Games, scheduled to be held in Abuja from 18–30 November 2024.

During a courtesy visit by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and other high-ranking military officers, Wike reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring a successful event.

Wike acknowledged the importance of hosting over 3,000 participants from across Africa, stating that their experiences in Abuja would leave a lasting impression on the safety and hospitality of the city and Nigeria at large.

He added that the FCT administration would collaborate with the local organising committee and security agencies to ensure tight security throughout the event.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, praised the decision to host the Africa Military Games in Nigeria, viewing it as a testament to the country’s dedication to promoting peace and security in the region.

He highlighted the opportunity for the armed forces to compete internationally and foster relationships that would benefit the continent’s security.

Additionally, Major-General Maikano Abdullahi, President of the Organisation of Military Sports in Africa, revealed that 42 countries had expressed interest, with 27 already submitting entry lists. Countries like Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso are among those set to participate.
