New Arsenal signing Bruno Guimaraes has revealed the emotional reason behind his decision to wear the number 39 shirt at the Premier League club.
Guimaraes joined Arsenal from Newcastle United on Saturday during the ongoing summer transfer window, completing his move to the North London side.
The Brazil international will wear No. 39, a number that holds deep personal significance for him and his family.
Explaining his choice in an interview published on Arsenal’s official website, Guimaraes said the number means “everything” to him and revealed that he even has a tattoo of 39.
The midfielder said the number is closely linked to his father, who worked as a taxi driver in Brazil for more than 20 years.
According to Guimaraes, his father’s taxi provided the family with essential needs, including food, clothing and a home.
“It means everything to me. I have the tattoo of the 39 as well,” Guimaraes said.
“My father was a taxi driver in Brazil for more than 20 years. The taxi, of course, gave me everything for my family, the place we live, the food, my clothes, everything.”
The 39 shirt therefore carries a strong family connection for the new Arsenal midfielder as he begins a new chapter of his career at the club.
