President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to return to Nigeria on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, after a working vacation in Europe that lasted about four weeks.
The President, who had initially been expected back this weekend, will now arrive through Lagos, THISDAY reports, citing Presidency sources. He is expected to land at the presidential wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, where Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will receive him.
Tinubu will remain in Lagos to celebrate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary on Thursday, October 1, 2026. He is also expected to attend to official state duties in the state before returning to Abuja the following weekend.
This will mark the second consecutive year the President has marked Nigeria’s Independence Day in Lagos. He similarly celebrated the country’s 65th anniversary in the state in 2025 after an official visit.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga earlier confirmed that Tinubu began his working vacation on August 30. He spent about a week in London before proceeding to Paris, France, and later extended his stay in Europe by a few days.
While in France, the President met with French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Vincent Bolloré, whose interests include Canal+, MultiChoice and Universal Music Group.
During the President’s absence, Vice President Kashim Shettima represented him at some official engagements.
