The UN Just Broke Its Silence Over Trump’s Charlottesville Response

A United Nations panel just accused President Trump of inciting racism in the United States with his comments on Charlottesville.
The U.N. Committee for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) issued an “early warning” to the United States over the volume of racial discrimination and police brutality in a statement on Monday.
“We are alarmed by the racist demonstrations, with overtly racist slogans, chants and salutes by white nationalists, neo-Nazis, and the Ku Klux Klan, promoting white supremacy and inciting racial discrimination and hatred,” said Anastasia Crickley, president of CERD.
Monday’s statement was intended to keep “existing problems from escalating into conflict,” with Crickley urging U.S. officials “to address the root causes of the proliferation of such racist manifestations” and for “the government of the United States of America, as well as high-level politicians and public officials, to unequivocally and unconditionally reject and condemn racist hate speech and crimes in Charlottesville and throughout the country.”
Trump infamously insisted that there were “fine people” among the white supremacists attending the rally, saying “both sides” were to blame for the violence that killed one counter protester and injured at least 19 more.
