The Creative Industry Group Expresses Plan To Train PMAN Members On Alternative Source Of Income

The Creative Industry Group (CIG) says its planned free training for musicians in Nigeria is to provide them with alternative sources of income outside the music industry
CIG explains planned training of PMAN members on income diversification, investment
The Creative Industry Group (CIG) says its planned free training for musicians in Nigeria is to provide them with alternative sources of income outside the music industry.
President of CIG, Mr Felix Duke, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Lagos.
Duke said that the training was for musicians, who are members of the Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN).
He said the group would prepare PMAN members to adapt to the changing worldeconomy, occasioned by the coronavirus.
According to him, this is why the CIG signed an MoU with PMAN to find ways for the musicians to diversify their earnings without it affected their main career.
“With this development now, artistes in the Nigeria music scene, through PMAN, will participate in our developmental training and investment opportunities which CIG delivers free of charge,’’ he said.
He said that the training, which focuses on capacity building, agricultural opportunities, health security and entrepreneurship would add value to the lives of the musicians
Duke pointed out that making albums and live performances of musicians had been greatly limited by lockdown order to stop the spread of the COVID-19,hence the need for diversification, especially ahead of post-COVID-19.
“We believe these alternative means of livelihood will enable the musicians to remain afloat.
We had come up with the free training structure for members of PMAN.’’
Meanwhile, Obi Casmir, PMAN President, told NAN that the CIG initiative was a welcome development, expressing the hope that the collaboration would further assist its members to rediscover their other potentials.
“We are happy to have CIG as our partners and I believe this collaboration will create and open more doors of opportunities for our musicians,’’ Casmir said.
