Veteran Nigerian Juju musician, Iyun Janet Ajilore, popularly known as Saint Janet, has been laid to rest in Abeokuta, Ogun State, amid tears and emotional tributes from family members, colleagues and other mourners.
Saint Janet reportedly died on August 1, 2026, following a brief illness that was initially not disclosed by her family.
Her funeral activities began with a candlelight service, Artists’ Night and Christian wake held on Tuesday at the AIT/Faaji FM compound in Kola Alagbado, Lagos.
The burial took place at her residence in Abeokuta on Wednesday, bringing together members of her family, children, friends and fellow entertainers who came to pay their final respects to the late singer.
A video from the burial ceremony showed emotional scenes as Saint Janet’s children and other mourners gathered around her remains before she was committed to the earth.
Meanwhile, the singer’s children have opened up about the events leading to their mother’s death, revealing that she complained of chest pain and experienced breathing difficulties shortly before she passed away.
Three of her children, Omowunmi, Orinayo and Fola Ayilor, shared details of her final hours during a recent interview with Alore TV.
According to them, Saint Janet had shown no obvious signs of ill health earlier in the day.
Omowunmi disclosed that her mother had performed at an overnight event in Sango, Ogun State, a day before her death and appeared to be in good health throughout the engagement.
“She performed the previous night. People even celebrated her with applause. We did not suspect anything. After the show we came home and slept. The show was overnight,” she said.
She explained that Saint Janet went to the market the following day and returned home at about 6pm, after which she prepared her own meal.
However, Omowunmi said she later noticed a sudden change in her mother’s condition.
According to her, Saint Janet began holding her chest and struggling to breathe normally, leaving the family concerned about her sudden deterioration.
The revelation has added an emotional dimension to the burial of the veteran singer, whose death has been mourned by family, fans and members of the Nigerian entertainment industry.
