Leading figures in Nigeria’s film and creative industry gathered in Lagos for ‘The Main Character Masterclass,’ a knowledge-sharing initiative designed to equip aspiring actors and filmmakers with practical skills and real-world industry insights.
The event, convened by filmmaker Stellamaris Duru, featured seasoned professionals such as Wale Adenuga, John Njamah, Yinka Adebayo, and Ireti Doyle, who engaged participants on navigating the realities of the entertainment industry.
Speaking at the event, Duru said the initiative was born out of a desire to give back and nurture emerging talents within the creative space.

“We are here to be impacted. This is a Masterclass where aspiring actors and filmmakers—and even those already in the craft—will gain practical knowledge you don’t get in classrooms or on film sets.
Here, you’re hearing directly from the veterans,” she said.

She emphasized that collaboration remains a critical but often overlooked factor in the growth and sustainability of the industry.
“In this industry, collaboration is underrated. No one can do it all alone. For me, collaboration is what has brought me this far,” Duru added.
To deepen engagement, the convener introduced a monologue contest, giving participants an opportunity to showcase their acting skills as part of the learning experience.
“I want participants to not just learn, but to be actively involved. The contest ensures they become part of the Masterclass itself,” she explained.
The event featured panel sessions, interactive discussions, and networking opportunities, offering attendees firsthand exposure to industry best practices in acting, filmmaking, and career development.
Stakeholders at the gathering noted that initiatives like ‘The Main Character Masterclass’ play a vital role in bridging the gap between emerging talents and established professionals, while fostering collaboration and long-term growth in Nigeria’s creative industry.
