The Assembly says his performance deserves not just celebration but a renewed mandate.

The Speaker, Tukur Bala Bodinga, confirmed this in an interview while reviewing the legislative year. He praised the governor’s achievements and expressed the House’s readiness to recommend an automatic ticket for the 2027 election.
He said the motion is not just ceremonial. “It is our way of thanking the governor for doing fantastically well. One good term deserves another,” Bodinga stated. This declaration reflects strong political consensus on the ground.

According to Bodinga, the governor has shown clear focus in touching lives. In 2024 alone, the administration delivered over 250 projects.
And in 2025, it has shown even more urgency in tackling the state’s key developmental challenges.
These projects include new roads, housing schemes and empowerment programmes targeting the poorest citizens.
A prime example is the Katin Sauki shop which provides public servants and pensioners with subsidised food. “It is a policy driven by the governor’s concern for the poor,” said the Speaker.
Security has also been a top priority. The state has acquired over 140 buffalo vehicles and motorcycles, and established a new military base in Illela.
These efforts are backed by regular financial and logistical support for security agencies.
“There’s now a noticeable reduction in banditry. This is because of the huge investment and the governor’s commitment to protecting lives,” Bodinga explained.
He added that the accusations by the opposition are baseless, stressing that Governor Aliyu is deeply involved in addressing insecurity.
“He has never failed to support our security agencies. The people affected are his own citizens. That’s why he is up and doing,” Bodinga said.
His remarks underline the unity between the executive and legislative arms of government in Sokoto.
The House Speaker dismissed claims that the governor harbours national political ambitions. “He’s not seeing this as a ladder to the presidency. His only focus is on bettering the lives of the people,” he said.
Governor Aliyu has also been lauded for qualities beyond project execution. According to Bodinga, he is a man of humility, accountability, and faith. “He is calm, religious and consults widely. He listens. He is a democrat,” he noted.
Importantly, Bodinga claimed that the governor has shown financial discipline. “He is not squandering state resources. He’s focused, and that’s why people believe in him. This is a general consensus,” the Speaker added.
Even with political attacks from the opposition, the governor has reportedly maintained his focus. “The opposition has been insulting him, but he ignores them. He knows their ploy is to distract him. This is the secret of his superlative performance,” Bodinga remarked.
The House believes that their legislative support has enabled many of these successes. Bodinga described the Assembly as “partners in progress,” adding that they have always acted in the interest of the people. “Our support is not blind. We support good governance,” he said.
The vote of confidence is expected to reaffirm the alignment between the governor and the lawmakers. In a state often challenged by insecurity and political tension, such unity signals a rare and commendable working relationship.

According to Bodinga, the ultimate reason for the vote is straightforward. “The governor is doing well. We just want to support him to do more.”
