As part of activities commemorating its 25th anniversary, the Alumni Association of Sacred Heart Catholic College (SHCC), Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, has organised a career guidance and mentorship programme aimed at equipping senior secondary school students with the clarity and confidence needed to make informed career decisions.
The three-hour interactive session, themed “Find What Fits,” was held under the leadership of Alumni President, Mr. Olagoke Ogayemi. It brought together accomplished professionals, alumni, and industry experts who engaged students in meaningful discussions on career discovery, personal interests, adaptability, and long-term professional growth.

The initiative was convened by Miss Fisayo Awoyemi, whose proposal was embraced and executed by the SHCC Alumni body as part of its commitment to giving back to the institution.
Speakers at the event stressed that choosing a career path should not be viewed as a one-time decision but as an evolving journey. Students were encouraged to explore diverse interests, remain open-minded, and understand that career transitions are a normal part of professional life.

Flexibility, resilience, and continuous learning emerged as key themes throughout the discussions.
Delivering the keynote address, Mr. Samuel Odifa outlined critical factors students should consider when selecting career paths. He emphasised the importance of developing essential “power skills” needed to thrive in today’s dynamic and competitive environment.
Odifa also shared practical insights on succeeding in professions beyond one’s academic field, demonstrating how transferable skills can open doors across multiple industries.
A major highlight of the programme was the interactive panel session featuring Mrs. Jumoke Bankole, Mr. Thomas Olalade Ogayemi, Mr. Ikechukwu Okwuosa, Mrs. Eniola Otolorin, and parent representative, Mr. Kunle Ajayi.
Students posed thoughtful questions on academic pathways, career choices, and real-life workplace experiences, receiving practical and relatable guidance from the panelists.
Beyond its educational impact, the event also served as a reunion platform for alumni, former teachers, and school administrators, reinforcing the enduring bonds that define the SHCC community.
The mentorship initiative underscores the Alumni Association’s ongoing commitment to nurturing future leaders while celebrating the school’s 25-year legacy of academic and moral excellence.
