Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has congratulated Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya (SAN) on her emergence as the first elected female President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), urging her to set a high standard that would inspire more women to attain leadership positions.
Speaking on Tuesday while receiving Badejo-Okusanya and a delegation of female legal practitioners at the State House in Abuja, the First Lady described her election as a significant milestone for gender inclusion and a testament to the power of women supporting one another.
She encouraged the incoming NBA president to leave a lasting legacy during her tenure by demonstrating exemplary leadership and earning the confidence of Nigerians.
“I believe your profession is quite conservative. My prayer is to wish you success and to thank all the women who stood by you. It is important for women to support each other. We pray that your tenure will pave the way for more women. You have to set the bar high,” the First Lady said.
Mrs. Tinubu also pledged her support to the Nigerian Bar Association whenever needed throughout Badejo-Okusanya’s administration.
Earlier, Badejo-Okusanya thanked the First Lady for receiving her delegation and commended her efforts in reducing poverty through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).
She said her historic election was made possible through the collective support of women within the legal profession, adding that their unity played a vital role in her victory.
“Everybody played a part in ensuring that I won the election. Your Excellency, you have set a good example for others to follow. We in the legal profession also have a role to play, and we look forward to partnering with the Renewed Hope Initiative,” she said.
Badejo-Okusanya had earlier paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu ahead of officially assuming office as President of the Nigerian Bar Association.
