In his address, titled ‘Climate Imperatives into Economic Prosperity, Bridging Africa’s Global Energy Future,’ President Tinubu emphasized Nigeria’s role in leading sustainable development and mitigating the effects of climate change across Africa.

He acknowledged the country’s responsibility as Africa’s most populous nation and one of its largest economies to demonstrate leadership in addressing climate challenges.

Tinubu outlined his administration’s focus on three key pillars: energy transition, climate resilience, and sustainable development.

He highlighted that Nigeria is employing climate-smart agricultural practices to enhance food security while reducing environmental impacts.

The President also referred to Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to adopt clean energy solutions, including the National Clean Cooking Gas Policy, aimed at promoting clean energy and socioeconomic development in the region.

The President emphasized that Nigeria is on a path toward achieving net-zero emissions by 2060, reducing its dependence on fossil fuels, and diversifying its energy sources.

Tinubu outlined the country’s plans to develop infrastructure for compressed natural gas and electric vehicles, as well as explore critical minerals necessary for the green energy transition.

Additionally, Tinubu stressed the importance of inclusivity, ensuring that policies promote social equity and leave no one behind.

He acknowledged Nigeria’s environmental challenges, including deforestation, desertification, and coastal erosion, and underscored the need for global collaboration to build resilience against these issues.

In line with these efforts, Nigeria became the first African country to fund green projects through Sovereign Green Bond issuances, with the third issuance underway. The President invited investors to partner with Nigeria in its green development journey.

The President concluded by highlighting the significance of technological innovation in advancing sustainable development, particularly in clean energy, water conservation, and waste management.

He also urged the global community to collaborate on addressing climate challenges, underscoring that sustainable development is a shared responsibility.

Tinubu’s remarks at the summit resonated with a collective call for global cooperation to meet the Sustainable Development Goals and mitigate climate change impacts.

Other global leaders attending the summit included Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni, President of Rwanda Paul Kagame, and Prime Minister of Finland Petteri Orpo.
