Pavilion Afriques, a platform which provides access to African and Black films, has announced plans to showcase works of African filmmakers at the Cannes Film Festival.

The 2019 edition of the France-based festival is slated for March 16 to 25.

According to Pavilion Afriques, an “iconic” location has been secured within the film market section of the festival, otherwise known as Marché du Film, for the showcase of African movies.

The works of filmmakers from Jamaica, Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Gambia, Tanzania, Djibouti and Burkina Faso will be put on showcase at the Marche du Film.

“Pavillon Afriques is the first tent within the film market section of the Cannes Film Festival devoted to the business of film in the African continent and among its diaspora,” it said in a statement.

“Situated within the Marché du Film, which is the world’s biggest gathering of film industry professionals who come to sell films, find partners and expand their professional network, Pavillon Afrique is leveraging off the tremendous changes that have come to shape African storytelling and motion-picture business in recent years.”

The festival will also feature round table discussions, seminars, with participants such as government officials, film industry leaders, international celebrities and influencers.
