Olusosun: Police take over Ojota Motor Park

A combined team of policemen on Tuesday took over the motor-park at Olososun in Ojota area of Lagos State and ensured that no operations took place at the park.

It would be recalled that the state government had ordered all residents and those operating business activities in the area to vacate, following the outbreak of fire at the dumpsite about a month ago, citing the fact that smokes emitting from the place were injurious to people’s health.

Smokes were still emitting from the dumpsite as at the time of filing this report.

Our correspondent could count about 15 patrol vehicles belonging to the Nigeria Police and two others belonging to the State’s Task Force, with several officers keeping vigil at the motor park, which gates have since been locked.

The development has led to the operators of the park, including drivers stranded, while few of the inter-state vehicles were seeing loading at the filling station nearby the park.

A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told the Nigerian Tribune that the police moved to the park this morning to enforce the vacation order issued by the state government as the park operators had continued to refuse the order to vacate the premises.

“The operators have refused to vacate the place and the state government cannot continue to watch while the lives of people are in danger as a result of the dangerous emission from the dumpsite that has continued to burn,” the source said.
