Olubadan Oba Owolabi Olakulehin funeral rites begin August 3. A state burial follows on August 8, with tributes, sports, and interfaith services in Ibadan
Olubadan Oba Owolabi Olakulehin funeral arrangements have been officially announced by the Olakulehin Royal Family, following the monarch’s passing on July 7, 2025, at the age of 90.

A state burial will be held on Friday, August 8, approved by Governor Seyi Makinde, with the final service and interment taking place at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Aremo, Ibadan, at 10:00 a.m., as disclosed by the late king’s first son, Olasunmbo Olakulehin.

The week-long farewell begins on Sunday, August 3, with the Olubadan Olakulehin Football Cup semi-finals at Bishop Philips Academy Stadium.
Sports events will continue with table tennis tournament preliminaries on August 4 at Lekan Salami Stadium, and the football cup finals on August 5 at Olubadan Stadium.

The Table Tennis Tournament finals take place on Wednesday, August 6, originally planned to celebrate the monarch’s 90th birthday and coronation anniversary before his passing.
A significant moment of tribute will be the lying-in-state and interfaith service at Mapo Hall on Thursday, August 7, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Christian wake at the Olubadan Palace in Oke Aremo at 3:00 p.m.
A family thanksgiving service will conclude the rites on Sunday, August 10, at the Cathedral of St. Peter’s.
The family expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, Governor Makinde, the Olubadan-In-Council, and the public, for their condolences, support, and shared mourning.
