Former Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Senator Gbenga Kaka, has expressed worries that “indigenes of Ogun State are becoming lazy these days.”

Kaka said this in an interview with DAILY POST in Abeokuta.

According to him, Ogun indigenes used to be hardworking, blazing the trail in as aspects of human endeavours.

He, however, said that has changed in recent times, adding that indigenes of the state are not ready to work any more.

His words:

The people of Ogun State should be up and doing. We have allowed the happenings across the length and breadth of the country to be affecting us in Ogun State. Our anthem is ‘Omo Ogun ise ya’ but right now, ‘ise kankan o ya mo’.

“We should go back to the drawing board where we are missing it, either collectively with other states in the federation or individually. Let us show them the way, that we are industrious people. We are enterprising, we are innovative. They have been copying us, they have been emulating us. Let us continue to lead. Both in the schools, in the hospitals and in all professions you can think of, let us continue to lead.”

Asked if he meant that Ogun indigenes are becoming lazy these days, Kaka said:

“That is exactly what I have just said. I don’t mince words. Our students don’t want to read. Those who are qualified don’t want to get employment and that is not part of our culture in Ogun State.

Speaking on the way out, the All Progressives Congress leader said, “We should all sit down and look at where we have gotten it wrong. The oil is the root cause – crude oil. Likewise, injustices at all levels of governance is making people to become despondent and lethargy is setting in.

“We know where we have gotten it wrong. Go to the garage, the people at the garage will tell you where we have gotten it wrong. They also know the solution. It is left for the leadership to apply the correct solution.”
