The Ogun State Government has, for the second time, suspended the process of selecting a candidate for the revered stool of the Awujale of Ijebuland.

The development was communicated in a letter dated January 20, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of Ijebu Ode Local Government.
The letter, signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, directed the local government authorities to halt the selection exercise.

According to the letter, the decision followed a fresh petition submitted to the state government by popular Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as KWAM 1.
The petition was signed on behalf of KWAM 1 by his legal counsel, Dr. Wahab Shittu (SAN).
Consequently, the state government instructed the Chairman of Ijebu Ode Local Government to direct the kingmakers to immediately put all processes relating to the Awujale selection on hold, pending further instructions from the government.
The latest suspension adds a new twist to the ongoing developments surrounding the succession to the Awujale stool in Ijebuland.
