Arise Television anchor Rufai Oseni has identified Peter Obi as the most formidable opposition figure capable of challenging President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
Speaking on Monday during The Morning Show on Arise Television, Oseni analyzed early political realignments and warned of looming turbulence within the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) following its recent expansion.
He predicted that the party could soon be engulfed in legal disputes, particularly concerning its registration and internal structure. According to him, these issues may not be coincidental but tied to broader political strategies ahead of 2027.

Oseni further alleged that powerful political interests are working behind the scenes to prevent Obi from appearing on the ballot. He argued that, based on political assessments conducted across major parties, Obi is widely seen as the only opposition candidate with the capacity to mount a serious electoral challenge against Tinubu.
“I think it’s going to be the beginning of more troubles for the NDC because litigations will begin, including those around its registration,” he said. “The core issue is keeping Peter Obi off the ballot. Forces will do everything possible to ensure that happens.”

He added that political mapping across parties such as the APC and ADC consistently points to Obi as the strongest contender, making his exclusion a strategic priority for rivals.
Oseni also linked recent internal crises within the ADC to these alleged efforts, suggesting they may be part of a broader attempt to weaken Obi’s political path.
Meanwhile, Obi and former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso have officially joined the NDC. The duo were received by the party’s national leader, Seriake Dickson, along with other party executives and supporters during a ceremony held at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Sunday.
