The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has thrown his weight behind a fitness-driven political mobilisation initiative, the Run-for-Asiwaju 2027 mini-marathon, designed to engage constituents, energise youths and build grassroots support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The mini-marathon, which will host about 1,000 participants, is scheduled for Sunday, January 25, at 8:00 a.m. The race will take off from the Agege Local Government Secretariat, wind through major neighbourhoods in the area, and terminate at the Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area.

Organisers said 200 participants will receive cash prizes of N10,000 each, while seven professional athletes are expected to win N50,000 apiece.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony held on Wednesday, January 22, at the Agege LGA Secretariat, Obasa described the initiative as a creative platform for political engagement and mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general election.

According to the longest-serving Speaker in the 47-year history of the Lagos State House of Assembly, the marathon symbolises the discipline, resilience and commitment required to secure a second term for President Tinubu.
“This mini-marathon is not just a sporting activity,” Obasa said. “It is about running together to celebrate President Tinubu’s transformative achievements in economic reforms, infrastructure, internal security and national unity, while mobilising millions of Nigerians to renew his mandate.”
He added that the initiative underscores confidence in Tinubu’s leadership. “With this mini-marathon, we are demonstrating that Asiwaju’s leadership is a race worth running and winning for the continued progress and prosperity of our great country,” he said.
The Speaker also used the occasion to urge party members to participate actively in the ongoing APC membership e-registration exercise, which he noted would end in 10 days.
“We have made the process easier with the provision of high-end, 5G-enabled tablets and LaserJet printers to support registration across the state,” Obasa said. “There is no excuse for anyone who claims to be a progressive member of the APC not to register.”
He further called for stronger engagement between elected officials and key stakeholders at the grassroots, advocating monthly or, at the very least, quarterly consultations to deepen collaboration and strengthen party cohesion.
