Oba Rashidi Ladoja Calls for Integration of Traditional and Modern Medicine in Nigeria

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has called for the integration of traditional medicine with orthodox healthcare as part of efforts to improve healthcare delivery and preserve indigenous medical knowledge in Nigeria.

The monarch made the appeal on Wednesday while receiving executive members of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria at the Olubadan Palace in Ibadan.

According to a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Gbenga Ayoade, the traditional ruler emphasised the importance of traditional medicine, describing it as effective, accessible, and affordable for many Nigerians.

“I believe in the efficacy of traditional medicine, its accessibility and affordability. Therefore, I want to use this opportunity to advocate for the integration of traditional medicine with modern medicine to enhance healthcare delivery before the exit of traditional medical practitioners,” the monarch stated.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Oyo State branch of the PSN, Segun Ajanaku, said the delegation visited the palace to congratulate the monarch on his ascension to the throne and commend his achievements within a short period of reign.

Ajanaku also informed the monarch about the completion of a pharmacists’ storey building in Ibadan, which he described as the first of its kind in Nigeria.

He formally invited the Olubadan to inaugurate the building on May 21, 2026.

The PSN chairman further sought the monarch’s approval to organise the association’s annual medical outreach programme at the palace on September 25, 2026.

Other dignitaries present at the event included Oba Kolawole Adegbola, Oba Mobolaji Adewoyin, and Muibi Ademola, alongside other traditional title holders.
