The Nigerian Youth Parliament (NYP) has unveiled the leadership of its 45 standing committees for the sixth legislative session.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Parliament’s spokesperson, Adekunle Akinrinade.
According to the statement, the leadership list had earlier been announced during the Parliament’s Second Plenary Session by the Speaker, Aliyu Idris Zakari.

“I am pleased to present the updated list of the leadership of our forty-five (45) standing committees, as earlier announced during our Second Plenary Session by the Speaker,” the statement read in part.
Zakari called on the committees to carry out their responsibilities in line with the ethics, rules and guiding principles of the Youth Parliament.

He also directed that official letterheads be prepared and issued to all committees to enhance coordination and ensure proper communication within the legislative body.
The Speaker further warned that any committee that remains inactive for three consecutive months would have its leadership and membership reviewed.
According to him, such measures are necessary to allow committed and capable members to take up responsibilities where inactivity persists.
Zakari also commended the selection committee for ensuring a fair and balanced distribution of committee leadership positions across the Parliament.
He expressed appreciation for their efforts in assigning the positions in a transparent manner.
“The Speaker urges all committees to discharge their responsibilities diligently and in strict compliance with the ethics, rules, and guiding principles of the Nigerian Youth Parliament,” the statement added.
The statement revealed that the committees cover a broad range of key national sectors, including agriculture, education, health, security, energy, youth development, climate change, gender equality, and regional development commissions.
Among the appointments, Hon. Rabiu Nafiu Maizare was named Chairman of the Agricultural Colleges and Institutions Committee, while Hon. Adamu Shehu heads the Agricultural Production Committee.
Other notable committees include the Anti-Corruption and Good Governance Committee, chaired by Hon. Zulaihat Muhammad Waziri, the Health Committee led by Hon. Morayo Ituolu, and the Justice and Legal Matters Committee chaired by Hon. Thelma Obandia Oyindamola.
In the energy sector, Hon. Emmanuel Onu was appointed Chairman of the Power Committee, while Hon. Victor Kajue and Hon. Nabil Aliyu Daneji will lead the Petroleum Downstream and Petroleum Upstream Committees respectively.
The Youth Parliament also constituted committees focusing on regional development commissions across the country, including those covering the North West, North East, North Central, South West, South East, Niger Delta, and South South regions.
According to the statement, these committees are expected to focus on development challenges and opportunities within their respective regions.
The announcement marks a major step in the operational activities of the sixth session of the Nigerian Youth Parliament, with members expected to begin legislative and oversight engagements across the various sectors of national interest.
