The National Health Insurance Scheme has urged the Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) and Health Care Providers (HCPs) to improve on their quality services in order to better the health insurance scheme in the country.
The Plateau state coordinator, Mrs. Aileen Blama made the call during interactive fora with HMOs, HCPs and enrollees at Country Home Hotel in Jos,
Mrs. Blama stated that the NHIS organized the fora to enable all stakeholders lay their complaints and discuss a better way of improving health care delivery in the country.
She said that NHIS has been working round the clock to improve on the benefit package for the enrollees that would reflect on prevention, promotion and curative components of health care delivery.
She said “We are also working towards minimum primary and secondary curative care, taking into cognizance the prevailing local morbidity and mortality profile, including pre- & post-natal care, normal delivery, child welfare services including immunization, family planning and health education services,”
The coordinator also urged the HMOs to support the NHIS in fishing out ghost enrollees to enable the scheme function well.
“There were enrollees who have been benefiting from the insurance scheme illegally and they have created disagreement between the NHIS and other health management organisations, we therefore seek the indulgence of HMOs to support us in order to fish out ghost enrollees from the scheme,” she said.
