The assault occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, around 2 AM. This development was disclosed by the Nigerian Army on its official X handle later on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the terrorists attempted to destroy swamp bogeys recently acquired by the Borno State Government.
These vehicles are vital for clearing waterways in the area, which would hamper counter insurgency operations. However, soldiers at the base fiercely resisted the attackers.
Reinforcements arrived from Baga, and a gun battle ensued, lasting for over two hours. In the end, the terrorists were forced to retreat, having failed to gain access to the swamp bogeys.

The Nigerian Army reported that scores of Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists were neutralised during the well coordinated joint land, maritime, and air operations. They also recovered improvised explosive device materials from the scene.
A minimal incursion into the base resulted in the destruction of an ambulance and two other vehicles, with some personnel sustaining injuries.
Following the repelled attack, air component platforms are conducting follow on pursuit exploitation on the waterways to further decimate the terrorists.
