This initiative, flagged off at the Simeon Adebo Staff Development Centre in Ibadan, reflects the state’s broader commitment to civil service reform and professional growth.

The State Commissioner for Establishment and Training, Salihu Adelabu, made the announcement on Thursday during a one-day capacity-building session for the selected officers.
He emphasised that the government was reviving the Staff Development Centre to align with 21st-century public service needs.

Adelabu described the exercise as a transformative tool for equipping government workers with skills required for effective governance, particularly in an era shaped by artificial intelligence and evolving digital technologies.
The training of these 80 officers marks the beginning of a broader state-wide programme designed to cover all service cadres and improve professional standards across the board.
Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration remains fully committed to civil service reform through sustainable investment in staff development.
We are reviving this centre to deliver cutting-edge training.
“We are reviving this centre to deliver cutting-edge training. Today’s sessions include modules on the Procurement Act and practical lessons in laws, regulations, and operational tools. Clerical officers must understand the shift from conventional systems to emerging technologies like artificial intelligence. Without training, lapses are inevitable; we choose to empower, not blame,” the commissioner stated.
The modern public service training covered essential modules such as procurement processes, understanding the Procurement Act, and the integration of information technology tools in government procedures.
He also urged the participants to embrace the training as a crucial step in their career development and in contributing meaningfully to governance.
Adelabu expressed optimism that the investment would translate to improved service delivery and accountability within the state civil service.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Taiwo Mustapha, admitted that while resource constraints and global economic pressures weigh heavily on public institutions, commitment and proactive thinking remain crucial.
“No matter the constraints, you can stand out through motivation, dedication, and a proactive embrace of ICT and AI tools. Those are the keys to leadership and relevance in today’s service environment,” Mustapha said.
On behalf of the participants, Ajayi Oluropo expressed appreciation to the Makinde administration for prioritising workforce capacity.
He affirmed that the training was both timely and necessary to improve public sector productivity.
The officers in attendance were drawn from clerical, secretarial assistant, and procurement/store cadres.
