Military synergizes with police, NSCDC on campaign planning in joint operations

THE Nigerian Military has stepped up synergy with the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps in the area of campaign planning during joint security operations.

Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General TY Buratai and other top Army personnel The development may not be unconnected to unimpressive understanding of officers of the security agencies during joint security or multi-agency security operations in the country.

The Chief of Defense Staff,General Gabriel Olonisakin,speaking yesterday,in Abuja,in a keynote address he delivered at the opening of the Campaign Planning Course,said the initiative was informed by the need to train officers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, on campaign planning at operational and strategic levels.

“The purpose of this course is to train officers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria on campaign planning at operational and strategic level. “The course is viewed as a precursor to entrenching joiness in multi-agency training to enable us develop understanding and expertise in planning and executing campaign in either single, joint or multi agency levels,” he said.

Represented by Rear Admiral Dogara Albehu,he added that the 5-day training course,organized by the Defense Headquarters in collaboration with the British Military Advisory Team in Nigeria,was ” specifically designed for participants who are senior staff trained and possibly posses fellow Defense Colleges and equivalent qualifications.”

He also explained that the “the inclusion of the Ministry of Defense Staff, the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps is to generate a synergy and more rapour in the understanding of roles of campaign planning particularly, that the Armed Forces is now concerned with fighting asymmetric warfare.”

Olonisakin explained that approving the training course was In line with his vision which states: “To ensure a well motivated trained and equipped Armed Forces that is responsive to national security commitment.”

While noting that the training was the first of its kind,he said:”It is hoped that the training would facilitate discussions and debate throughout to ensure that participants are provided with greater knowledge and understanding of the entire planning process.”

The training course had 30 participants from the services operational areas, Ministry of Defense and the Nigeria Police Force as well as the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps.
