Okpunoeze, Uraugu-Nnewi, Anambra State has been thrown into a mournful mood as a forty-year-old man, Chinedu Ikegwuonu has allegedly butchered his seventy-year-old mother Madam Bene Ikegwuonu with cutlass killing her in the process.

The deceased Madam Ikegwuonu allegedly returned home after going to market to prepare okra and ogbono soup and that she was actually grinding the ogbono when her son approached from behind and slit her throat.

The suspect according to sources allegedly took to his heels after committing the murderous act living his wife who hails from Ngwa, Abia State and his son behind. Madam Bene Ikegwuonu is said to be blessed with four boys and three girls, one of them sources said died in a fatal accident.

Madam Bene Ikegwuonu is said to be blessed with four boys and three girls, one of the sources said died in a fatal accident.

A family member who pleaded for anonymity said that the suspect who returned to Nnewi due to business failure in Aba, Abia state has been having a running battle with his dead mother over his attempt to take over a piece of land that belongs to his younger brother.

He pointed out that the deceased woman tried her best to improve a lot of the suspect to the point of giving him money to raise the foundation of his building from the money she got after the burial of her husband.

This according to the family source was occasioned because of the fact that Chinedu was unable to do anything about the foundation of his building after one and half years, coupled with the fact that the second daughter was taking a very good care of her mother before her untimely death after a fatal accident.

The family source claimed that the butchered woman even went to the extent of taking money her late daughter’s bank account for the suspect to complete his building after which he then turned around to take over a portion of land that belongs to his younger brother.

He noted further that Chinedu as part of his efforts to mount pressure on his dead mother abandoned the Anglican communion and started attending a white garment church.

As at the time of filing this report, Chinedu’s wife and son are said to have been arrested by men and officers of Nnewi Central Police Station with the hope that the suspect would come for his family.

When contacted the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Anambra State police command Muhammed Haruna (SP) said he was in a meeting and that he would call our correspondent for the police angle of the story but failed to call as promised.
