As part of activities marking the Lagos@50 celebrations, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has commissioned Ijegun-Isheri- Osun-Isolo road project on Wednesday with the aim of increasing connectivity along the axis and decongest traffic at the ever busy Ikotun junction.
The road, which is fully completed with a dual carriageway, drainage systems on both sides of the two bridges at Isheri Oshun and Ailegun junction, service/lane ducts and street lighting, was said to have been in the most terrible state before Government’s intervention.
Commissioning the 6,500m long and average width of 20.350m road project, Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode said the project was also designed to significantly decongest and represent a viable alternative route for people of Ijegun, Ijeododo and Isheri Oshun to link Apapa-Oworonshoki Expressway through Jakande Estate.
Governor Ambode, represented by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Tpl. Wasiu Anifowose, said the delivery of the road project was part of the efforts of the present administration to ease movement of people from one point to the other within the State.
He noted that the State government has remained focused on the promise to provide good governance and make life more comfortable for the people, saying, “Let me emphasise that this road project being commissioned today is taxpayers’ money in action. It belongs to you. We have only ensured that the funds which you have made available to us through the payment of your taxes are judiciously utilised in the best interest of the people.”
“I will, therefore, use this opportunity to assure you and indeed all Lagosians of our unwavering commitment to building a Lagos that works for all irrespective of your location within the boundaries of the State. We continue to demonstrate our commitment to this pledge, I enjoin you all to continue to play your part as good citizens of Lagos State”, he said.
Promising more development to the people of Alimosho, Ambode said a Master Plan had already been designed for Alimosho which vividly captures all the inner roads in the area and assured that with time the roads would be attended to.
The Onisheri of Isheri-Olofin Kingdom, Oba Abdulwahab Balogun, commended Governor Ambode for the purposeful and visionary leadership he has been displaying. He praised the administration for turning the whole State into a construction site, under its transformation agenda.
According to the monarch, “The present Governor and his team are doing very well. They have started very well and we are happy with them. We are proud of the Governor and we wish him well”.
While recalling the terrible state of the road before the intervention, the Iyaloja of Jakande, Chief Mrs. Stella Adebiyi said that the delivery of the project had brought great succour to residents of the area.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by traditional rulers, community leaders, Market Men and women, members of the business community, party leaders and the youths.
