Lagos ambulance delay leaves accident victims stranded for over an hour, forcing eyewitness to transport injured women to hospital in private car
Three young women involved in a serious road accident on Kingsway Road in Ikoyi, Lagos, sustained severe head injuries early Tuesday morning and reportedly faced a significant Lagos ambulance delay, sparking public concern about emergency response in the state.

Eyewitness Agboola Kotun, who shared the ordeal on Facebook, said the accident happened just hours before his post. Two of the victims reportedly suffered “very severe head injuries.”

Kotun, with the help of a paramedic present at the scene, administered first aid while they awaited a state-owned ambulance.
However, after more than an hour and a half with no help in sight, he transported the victims himself to the General Hospital, Lagos, using his own vehicle.

“Very sad!” Kotun wrote in the post. “Unfortunately, after one and half hours of waiting, I had to use my vehicle to convey them to General Hospital, Lagos.”
He added that the urgency was compounded by the swift arrival of the husband of one of the injured women—a recently returned American-trained urologist—who reportedly travelled from Arepo to the hospital in under thirty minutes.
Kotun’s post reignited public frustration over what many describe as a steady decline in Lagos emergency services.
He drew comparisons between current and past administrations, suggesting that response times have worsened in recent years.
Reacting to the post, Facebook users expressed a mix of gratitude and frustration.
Some hailed Kotun’s intervention, calling him a hero, while others called for reforms in Lagos’ health emergency systems.
A user, Omoba Surakat Olabode Oteshade-Eshilokun, praised him: “Well done brother, thank you for saving their lives. Almighty God will be there for you whenever you don’t expect anybody… Thank you once again baba.”
Another user, Mojisola Allison, wrote, “Weldone Doctor, may Allah reward you for saving lives. Lagos State health sector needs serious intervention urgently.”
Afilaka Bidemi also weighed in, tagging journalist Babajide Kolade-Otitoju and urging further investigation. “We need those ambulances back on our roads,” she wrote.
