The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde has described the ongoing Lagos@50 celebrations as the leading government event that has enjoyed the widest coverage from both the conventional and online media locally and internationally.
Ayorinde attributed the wide coverage of the event to the combination of the robust online presence of the State Government’s online platforms via the Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Instagram accounts as well as the combination of the frequent reportage and live telecast of the various roadmap activities and events of the celebration by the State-owned television station, LTV as well as the radio services.
He said: “The Lagos at 50 celebrations over the past weeks has become the only activity that has gained the attention of the online space and occupied the air transmission as though no other activities have been happening all over the country. This has been made possible because of the various presence of the State government through all the various media platforms.”
The Commissioner explained that the State Government recently improved the technical capacity of its television station, Lagos Television, LTV with 6 live recording equipment (Tricaster) that allows for live broadcast simultaneously from 6 centres in addition to other newly acquired state-of-the-art broadcasting gadgets, stressing that LTV is the first TV Station to do so in Nigeria.
He further disclosed that the digitization process of LTV in line with the directive of the National Broadcasting Corporation regulation would soon be completed to further put the station in tune with modern broadcasting trends.
Ayorinde explained that the State Government is also harnessing the viability of its social media and online platforms to further entrench the activities of the administration of Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode in the nooks and crannies of the State.
“Apart from the Lagos State Government Official Website which is more user-friendly, interactive and robust to widen the reach of government information, other official Social Media Accounts include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Google and Google+. The present administration optimized these platforms to disseminate information on its policies, programmes and activities directly to over 65% of the total population of youths and other online users” Ayorinde stated.
He highlighted some of the publications of the Ministry specially produced to commemorate and document the grand golden era of Lagos for posterity to include: ‘Lagos Quarterly’, ‘50 Shades of Greatness’, ‘Cinema in Lagos’, ‘Eyo: White Lagos’ and ‘Phenomenal Lagos’.
According to him, the State Government is putting a mechanism in place to ensure adequate documentation of all its activities as a reference point for the future generation, adding that the history, legacy and essence of the celebration of Lagos State @ 50 is presently being documented for future use.
