The Kwara State House of Assembly says procurement of transformers by the state government has gone a long way in enhancing socio- economic transformation of the State.
The House made this observation in its Resolutions while considering a Matter of Urgent Public Importance raised by a member representing Kaiama/Kemanji/Wajibe Constituency, Hon. Ahmed Ibn Mohammed on destruction of electric poles by rainstorm in Kaiama.
Reading the Resolutions of the House, the Deputy Speaker Elder Matthew Okedare, who presided over Thursday’s sitting, noted with delight that the state government had invested huge amount of its scarce resources in procuring and energising transformers and connecting many rural communities to national grid.
The House, however, urged the state government to urgently provide 55 high tension electric poles, to restore power supply to Kaiama.
Hon. Ibn Mohammed had ,while raising the matter of urgent public importance said Kaiama- Woro axis had been in total darkness, due to damaged wooden electric poles by rainstorm, thereby making life unbearable for the affected inhabitants of the area.
The Legislator who narrated the ordeal of his people, in restoring power supply, urged the state government to come to the rescue.
Other members who contributed on the Matter of Urgent Public Importance noted with displeasure that Kaiama Local Government Area deserves more basic amenities and enjoined other stake holders to complement government’s efforts in providing amenities to improve on the wellbeing of the people of the area.
Meanwhile, a bill for a law to provide for the Administration of Criminal Justice in all the Courts of Kwara State and a bill for a law to impose tax on goods and services consumed in Hotels, Restaurants and Event Centres within the State passed through first reading at the floor of the House.
