The Yoruba council of youths worldwide has applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for his decision to acknowledge June 12 as the real democracy day and to posthumously confer the Chief Moshood Kashimawo Abiola with the highest presidential honour.

The group stated this in a statement issued to the press on Thursday and signed by its president, Aremo Dotun Hassan, the group profusely appreciated APC and the Buhari led government and predicted that with this development, Nigeria is on a path of a new dawn.

It said: “It must be noted with full gladness that no matter how many times lies may swayed through in life, one day truth shall become insurmountable crescendo over darkness, and that is what Nigerians are witnessing today.

“We see this fruition of the long awaited expectation of a new dawn in Nigeria, for this day did not come so easy, it is date full of intriguing episodes viz; wanton killings, corruption fields, unbroken feasts of unbearable pains and agony.

“More so, all this were meted on Nigerians, all of whom expressed their suffrage franchise rights to vote on the mantra of “Hope 93” for their choice candidates, which saw MKO Abiola as the undeclared winner.

“We believe, this day needs to respected and referred with great patriotism and sober reflection as a valued date of reckoning, synonymous with hope, freedom and enthronement of social justice rights, rule of law and real formation of democratic constitutional nation.

“However, for reasons best known to IBB, which proves extremely unacceptable to the generality of Nigerians and world over, over the illegal and Gestapo style annulment.

“For he-iBB will forever be haunted by the Spirit of the dead and homicide of innocent souls; Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, Alfred Rewani to mention a few amongst others were all victims of evil circumstances, they were gruesomely killed under the draconian firepower guns and bombs of the military Juntas.”

The group further called on President Buhari to grant the other wishes of the people on restructuring, devolution of powers, brand new constitution and others.

firms the reposed confidence invested in it in 2015, by granting the wishes of the people on restructuring and succinct devolution of powers/ brand new constitution to mention a few.

It said: “As a people commonly binded by love and unity, we should seize the advantage of this opportunity to grandly demand for restructuring agenda pursuits progressively and demand for a new people’s constitution, as the final arbiter that will forever heal the long sufferings and wounds surge of Nigerians.

“Perhaps, I believe PMB should go further to provide all this demands in consonance with the unexpected gifts; “The Not Too Young To Run Law 2018 and now June 12, we hope to see this as not as Greek gifts but fundamental functions and deliverables of the Democratic Manifesto and campaign promises fulfilled. “

It emphasized that the president’s recent good gesture should not be politicized and it pleaded: “We plead that electioneering campaigns should be predicated on antecedents of the individual candidates at all levels of election, so as to avoid usual pitfalls of politicking”.

It further called on INEC to conduct a peaceful 2019 polls stressing that either party that wins, should be kind in victory without violence or bloodshed.

The Eagle online reports that President Buhari has changed the normal May 29 Democracy Day celeberation to June 12 and posthumously conferred him with the highest presidential honours, GCFR; Babagana Kingibe, was also conferred GCON while late radical lawyer and human right activist, Chief Gani Fawehimi, was also posthumously conferred with GCON.
