A 35-year-old journalist identified as Ambrose Adishi is appealing for the sum of N19 million to enable him to undergo a kidney transplant.

An appeal letter dated February 16, 2024, by Gifting Volunteer Network, said the 35-year-old required financial assistance following the failure of his kidneys.

Adishi is said to be a cameraman who had worked for different media organisations before he took ill.

According to the letter, Adishi’s “journey of woe began in 2020 when he received the initial diagnosis at a primary healthcare centre in Lagos, which was later confirmed at the Isolo General Hospital and the Gbagada General Hospital.

“He has since then ceased to urinate due to the rapid failure of the kidneys.”

The letter also quoted Adishi as having said through a telephone call, “I used to be a cameraman for different media houses. I was working with a TV station before this sickness struck. Initially, I felt unwell and suspected it was just typhoid and malaria. Consequently, I sought medical opinions from various hospitals.

“At a primary healthcare centre, I underwent tests that revealed kidney issues. At that time, I was still able to work. Another hospital visit confirmed the PHC’s diagnosis. It was a doctor at Gbagada who told me that I needed a kidney transplant.

“Since then, Nigerians have been helpful. They contributed to me as I went on social media to cry out. Every naira Nigerians have contributed to me has been for dialysis and medicines, and now I need to pay N50,000 for one injection.”

In a confirmation letter by the Gbagada General Hospital, signed by a consultant nephrologist identified simply as Dr. Busari, Adishi was said to have been diagnosed with “end-stage renal disease secondary to chronic glomerulonephritis and hypertensive nephropathy.”

Speaking in a telephone interview on Monday, the chairman of GVN, Belele David, said Adishi experienced a significant deterioration in his condition, causing him to partially lose his vision and mobility.

He appealed to all Nigerians for help while expressing the impact of Adishi’s illness on his family and his fear of not being there for them.

Donations can be made to Adishi’s UBA account number, 2324899139; account name: Ambrose Adishi.
