‘Imo Has No Registered Voters In 38 Polling Units, 2 In Bayelsa’ – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has revealed that there are no registered voters in 38 polling units in Imo State and two in Bayelsa State.

The electoral body also noted that of the 2,419,922 registered voters for the November 11 governorship election in the state, only 2,318,919 permanent voter cards were collected.

This was contained in a graphical representation posted on the INEC official Facebook account on Wednesday.

It was gathered that there will be an off-cycle governorship and House of Assembly elections in Imo with two other states, Bayelsa and Kogi, on November 11 (Saturday).

According to INEC, 1,199,263 (49.9%) of the total registered voters are males, while the females are 1,220,659 (50.1 per cent).

The affected 38 polling units are spread across 13 local government areas in the state.

The LGAs include: Aboh Mbaise (four), Ahiazu Mbaise (1), Eziahitte Mbaise (one), Ideato North (two), Isiala Mbano (one), Isu (one), Njaba (one), Ohaji Egbema (five), Orlu (five), Orsu (seven), Oru East (six), Owerri Municipal (one), and Owerri North (three).

Also, youths and middle-aged groups make up 66 per cent of all registered voters.

According to the representation, youth in the 18-34 age bracket represent 801,278 registered voters (33 per cent); the middle-aged group in the 35-49 age bracket has 783,120 registered voters (32 per cent).

Others include the age bracket 50-67 for the elderly, which has 559,122 (23 per cent) registered voters, and the old age bracket less than 70 and above, which has 276,402 (12 per cent) registered voters.

In addition, INEC also noted that there are 1,225 registered voters with varying disabilities.

The breakdown indicates albinism (428), autism (42), cognitive learning disability (34), blindness (115), deafness (56), physical impediment (5), and little stature (239).

Similarly, in Bayelsa State, INEC says there are 1,056,862 registered voters.

Of the registered voters, 566,095 (54 per cent) are males, while 490,707 (46 per cent) are females.

There are a total of 880 persons with disabilities who are expected to partake in the governorship election in the state on Saturday.

In Imo State, there are no registered voters in two polling units in two local government areas in the state. One is in the Ekeremor LGA, and another is in the Southern Ijaw LGA in the state.

Meanwhile, in Kogi State, INEC says there are 1,932,654 registered voters.

INEC also noted that only 1,833,160 PVCs were collected.

Unlike Imo and Bayelsa, there is no polling unit in Kogi State with no registered voters.

Of the registered voters, 953,941 (49 per cent) are males, while 978,713 (51 per cent) are females.

There are 1,153 registered voters with disabilities.
