Halima Abubakar Apologises to Apostle Suleman

Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar publicly apologises to Apostle Johnson Suleman for false and defamatory statements she made against him in the past.

Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has publicly apologised to Apostle Johnson Suleman, the Senior Pastor and General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries International, for defamatory statements she made against him.

In a heartfelt statement shared on her Instagram account on Wednesday, Abubakar admitted to making false claims, expressing regret for the pain and distress caused to Apostle Suleman, his family, and his ministry.

The actress acknowledged that her previous remarks were not only untrue but also hurtful, and she attributed her actions to poor judgment.

Her apology follows what she described as a period of “deep reflection and conscience,” which led her to realise the harm she had caused.

“I am writing to you today to acknowledge the falsehoods I made against you on social media and to offer my sincere apology,” Abubakar wrote in her statement.

“After deep reflection and in order for my conscience to be in accord with God, I have realised the depth of the harm, pain, and distress caused by my lies.”

The actress continued by admitting that her allegations were baseless, and she expressed remorse for the damage done to not only Apostle Suleman but also his wife, Dr. Lizzy Suleman, his family, and the leaders of Omega Fire Ministries.

She pleaded for forgiveness, noting that while her apology could not undo the past, she hoped for reconciliation.

“I admit that I made false allegations against you and also regret my actions and the damage I caused to you, your wife, Dr. Mrs. Lizzy Suleman, your family, and the leaders of Omega Fire Ministries,”

she added. “I humbly ask for your forgiveness, recognising that my apology cannot undo the harm, pain, and distress I caused.”

This apology comes after a long-running controversy between Abubakar and Apostle Suleman. In 2022, the actress claimed to have had a romantic relationship with the cleric, which led to threats of legal action from Suleman.

The situation escalated in 2023 when Abubakar alleged that she had been pregnant three times with the pastor’s child.

In April, the Federal High Court in Abuja ruled in favour of Apostle Suleman, ordering Halima Abubakar to pay N10 million in damages for defamation.

The court also issued an injunction preventing her from making further defamatory remarks against the cleric.

The actress’s public apology appears to be a significant step towards mending the relationship and moving forward from the legal disputes that have marred the past two years.
