Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has approved financial support for veteran Nollywood actress, Ngozi Nwosu, following her public appeal for assistance to undergo three urgent surgeries.
The intervention was announced on Tuesday by the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Tourism and Entertainment, Martins Justice, who disclosed that the state government had approved payment for the first phase of the actress’s medical expenses.
In a post on X, Justice said Governor Otti had responded to the actress’s health challenge by providing immediate support.
He noted, however, that the government’s intervention covered only part of the treatment costs and urged Nigerians to continue supporting the actress financially.
“His Excellency @alexottiofr has just stepped in on the health issues of our Nollywood legendary actress Mrs Ngozi Nwosu to approve the first part of her medical bills,” he wrote.
Justice added that while the government’s gesture was commendable, additional support from well-meaning Nigerians remained necessary to ensure the actress received the full treatment she required.
The announcement has been welcomed by fans and members of the entertainment industry, who had expressed concern after Nwosu disclosed her worsening health condition.
The 62-year-old actress recently revealed that she had been hospitalised for three weeks and required about ₦30 million to undergo three life-saving surgeries.
In an emotional video shared on her Instagram page, Nwosu appealed to fans, colleagues and well-wishers not to abandon her during the difficult period.
She said she had been battling severe pain and pleaded for financial assistance, expressing hope that Nigerians would come to her aid.
Ngozi Nwosu is one of Nollywood’s respected veterans, with a career spanning several decades and numerous acclaimed roles in television and film.
Her health challenge has once again sparked conversations about the welfare of veteran entertainers, many of whom struggle with medical and financial challenges after years of contributing to Nigeria’s creative industry.
