The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Eid ul Mawlid, marking the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement issued on Friday by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani.

Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and across the world on the occasion and urged Nigerians to reflect on the values associated with the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad.
The minister highlighted compassion, humility and service to others as important virtues that Nigerians should embrace, particularly at a time when the country needs greater unity and understanding.

He said the occasion provided an opportunity for citizens to reflect on these values and apply them in their daily lives, regardless of religious affiliation.
Tunji-Ojo also urged Nigerians to use the celebration to pray for peace, national cohesion and the progress of the country, stressing that maintaining unity was a shared responsibility.
The minister called on Muslims and other Nigerians to celebrate the occasion responsibly, with restraint and mutual respect.
He wished the Muslim community a peaceful and joyous Eid ul Mawlid while reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting lives and property and sustaining peace across the country.
