EFCC Issues Fresh Summons to Timipre Sylva Over $14.86m Fraud Allegations

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a fresh summons to former Bayelsa State Governor Timipre Sylva in connection with an alleged $14.86 million fraud.

The development follows Sylva’s accusation that the anti-graft agency was operating more as an organ of the All Progressives Congress (APC) than as a state institution.

EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale announced the summons on Monday. “He has been declared wanted; he should make himself available to the commission,” Oyewale stated.

The EFCC first declared Sylva wanted in November 2025 over allegations of conspiracy and dishonest conversion involving $14,859,257.

Sylva, a former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, resigned from the APC months after being linked to an alleged plot against the administration of President Bola Tinubu. He is listed as a defendant and described as “still at large” in a 13-count federal charge sheet that includes allegations of treason, terrorism-related offences, conspiracy and money laundering.

Reports indicate that Sylva fled the country after the investigation into the alleged plot became public. He later suspended plans to return following a raid on his Abuja residence in which some of his associates were arrested.

Investigators have identified Sylva as an alleged principal financier of the plot. They claim he contributed about N785 million through Purple Waves Limited, an Abuja-based company.
