DeeOne Slams IGP Tunji Disu: Why No Arrest for VeryDarkMan Despite Refusing Police Invite?

Popular Nigerian comedian and social media influencer Aderombi Adedayo Martins, popularly known as DeeOne, has publicly criticised Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu over the Force’s handling of VeryDarkMan’s refusal to honour a police invitation.

In an Instagram video posted on Tuesday, DeeOne accused the police of applying different standards to influencer Martins Vincent Otse (VeryDarkMan) compared with other public figures who allegedly ignored similar invitations.

The comedian insisted that the same rules must apply to every Nigerian regardless of status or popularity. He pointed to the recent cases of former Big Brother Naija housemate Tacha and social media personality Blord. According to DeeOne, Tacha was arrested after allegedly ignoring two police invitations and later released on bail, while Blord was taken into custody and arraigned for failing to honour an invitation.

DeeOne noted that VeryDarkMan had publicly declared he would not honour the police invitation despite allegedly being invited twice. He questioned why similar action had not been taken against him.

Addressing the IGP directly, DeeOne claimed Disu was responsible for delaying VeryDarkMan’s arrest. “Fellow Nigerians, our current Inspector-General of Police, Mr Tunji Disu, is becoming a useless man. What is good for a citizen is also good for all citizens,” he said.

The comedian further alleged that approval for VeryDarkMan’s arrest had been given but that the IGP was preventing it from being carried out. He asked whether Disu was working for Nigerians or for VeryDarkMan, adding that the activist appeared to suddenly favour the police chief.

DeeOne also warned that Disu would not remain in office indefinitely and claimed to have information about an impending change in police leadership. He challenged the IGP to take action against him if he believed any offence had been committed, stating he would continue to speak out and could escalate his criticism to personal matters involving the IGP’s official activities.

The comments come after VeryDarkMan announced he would not honour the invitation, which was issued following allegations he made against Assistant Inspector-General of Police Jimoh Moshood.

As of the time of this report, neither the IGP nor the Nigeria Police Force had responded to DeeOne’s allegations.
