Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, on Tuesday, ordered the remand of a man, Nasiru Uthman, at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl.
The Judge ordered the remand of the defendant after he was arraigned on two counts of defilement and unlawful indecent act towards a minor, preferred against him by the Lagos State Government.
The state prosecution counsel, Ms Bukola Okeowo, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offences sometime in January 2022. She said the incident occurred at about 6 pm, in the Lekki area of the state.
According to the prosecutor, the offences committed contravened Sections 138 and 135 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
However, the defendant who took his plea in Hausa Language, through a translator, as he does not understand the English language, pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Consequently, Justice Oshodi ordered that he be remanded in correctional custody and adjourned the matter till April 25, 2024, for the commencement of trial.
