  • The Lagos state government has arraigned 50 suspects for vandalising its property – The suspects were arraigned before a magistrate’s court in Ikeja area of the state

  • Chief Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi remanded the 50 suspects in prison Fifty suspects have been arraigned before a magistrate’s court in Ikeja area of Lagos over an attack and vandalisation of government equipment (caterpillar) around Idansan village in Lekki area of the state.

Vanguard reports that the Lagos state government arraigned the suspects before Chief Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi of Court 4, Ikeja magisterial district.

We gathers that the disclosure was made by the chairman of the Lagos State Task Force, Olayinka Egbeyemi. He said 50 suspects, including four girls, attacked officials of Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) during the demolition of shanties erected on acquired land and set fire on a caterpillar belonging to the government.

According to him, officials of LASBCA were attacked with stones, metals, broken bottles and burnt tyres before the law enforcement team of the agency arrived.

He said government had earlier served owners/occupiers of the illegal shanties necessary notices and given months to evacuate all their belongings from government-approved land for a refinery in the area. One of the suspects, Henry Agbor, claimed they were mobilised by owners of the illegal shanties. He appealed to the government to temper justice with mercy.

The 50 suspects were remanded in prison and their case was referred to the director of public prosecutions for legal advice.
Meanwhile, previously reported that six suspected hoodlums were arrested by the police for allegedly looting a firm near Olusosun dump in Ojota, Lagos, and stealing equipment worth N8 million.

The police identified the suspects as Abu Muhammed, 18; Emmanuel George, 43; Abubakar Ibrahim, 28; Abubakar Abdullahi, 24; Bello Champion, 24 and 25-year-old Adeniyi Ifelowo.
