35 countries arrive in Abeokuta for the CAA U18/U20 African Athletics Championship, with Nigeria hosting from July 16–20 at the MKO Abiola International Stadium
Final preparations are underway in Abeokuta, Ogun State, as the city prepares to host the 3rd edition of the CAA U18/U20 African Athletics Championship.

Scheduled to run from July 16 to 20, 2025, the event will take place at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, drawing young athletic talents from across the continent.

As of Monday night, 35 countries have arrived in Nigeria for the championship, including recent arrivals from Algeria and Morocco.
They join continental powerhouses such as Kenya, South Africa, Ethiopia, Uganda, Ghana, and Egypt, all vying for medals and glory in various track and field events.

Nigeria, as the host nation, has completed all logistical and technical preparations to ensure a smooth and memorable championship.
Measures covering security, transportation, accommodation, and protocol are in full swing, with organisers promising a world-class sporting experience for athletes, coaches, and officials alike.
Abeokuta has embraced its role as host with enthusiastic local support, featuring cultural performances, traditional dances, and interactive cultural exchanges.
Many foreign athletes and delegates have expressed delight at the vibrant hospitality and festive atmosphere, describing it as a “home away from home.”
In parallel with the sporting events, the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) convened its official congress** at the Confluence Hotel in Abeokuta.
The session, chaired by CAA President Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, addressed pressing issues such as the future of African athletics, sustainable development, and strategies to enhance global competitiveness for African athletes.
The CAA Congress reaffirmed that the championship goes beyond medals it serves as a strategic platform for policy formulation, governance reforms, and the development of athletic structures across Africa.
