In a thought-provoking post on X, Makun emphasized that while both emotional neglect and betrayal are deeply painful, one should never be used to justify the other.
He argued that more relationships could thrive if both parties took responsibility for their actions instead of shifting blame or turning disagreements into public battles.
Makun also highlighted how social media often simplifies complex conflicts into narratives of heroes and villains, particularly when public figures are involved.
“We have normalised choosing sides so much that we no longer ask what truly went wrong. Emotional neglect is painful. Betrayal is painful too. One hurt should not automatically become justification for another. Maybe relationships would survive more if accountability was shared instead of outsourced,” he wrote.
Through his message, Makun called for greater nuance and introspection, suggesting that true resolution comes when both sides acknowledge their role in a breakdown.
