The African Union (AU) has congratulated Botswana and Namibia on the successful signing of their boundary treaty in Windhoek, the AU said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
The signing of the treaty is the culmination of a process that began with the joint submission of a request to the AU Commission in August 2015.
“The signing not only strengthens the relations between Botswana and Namibia but demonstrates the commitment between the two countries to facilitate free movement of people.
“It will also transform their common border into a pole of development.
“The 55-member African organisation lauds the treaty an “excellent” example to all member states to positively approach border treaties and cross-border cooperation,’’ the statement said.
The two countries however, had signed the boundary treat on Monday.
